William Augustas Robinson (152), who was a Yeoman Warder here at the Tower from 5thJuly 1902 to 21stApril 1926.

William was born on 21 April 1860 in Shankill, Antrim, to Ellen Reid and William Augustus Robinson, he joined the Cameron’s (Queens Own) Cameron Highlanders on the 8thNovember 1876, Army Number 1053.

Discharged as a Sergeant Major on the 19th September 1902, having already become a Yeoman Warder on the 5th July 1902,

 

While serving in the Army he had the following medals:

  1. Egypt Medal clasp
    1. Clasp Nile 1884
  2. Khedives Star
  3. Long Service & Good Conduct
  4. Meritorious Service Medal
  5. 1911 Coronation Medal

William married Janet Hardy Nesbit on 14 March 1889 when he was 28 years old, they had 7 children, Margaret b 1889, Ellen b1891, Grace b 1896, Edith b 1898, William b1900, john b 1901.  William then married Rosanna Lummis in 1909 when he was 49 years old, and had 2 children, Sidney b 1906, Cynil b 1910.

It looks like William moved into the Middle Tower on the 8th July 1902, then on the 21st April 1908, he moved into 7 The Parade, now called Tower Green, the records showed that in January 1922 he was living in Leggs Mount.  Which is the building the poppy waterfall was coming from
