John Andrew Hayward (41) was a Yeoman Warder here at the Tower of London from 25 August 1847 replacing Thomas Rowley (39) to 5 January 1881, when he was replaced by John Power (110).

When John Andrews Hayward was born in 1806 in Walsham Le Willows, Suffolk, his father, John (born 1779 – died 1852), was 27 and his mother, Hannah nee Andrews (Born 3 March 1782 died 1868) , was 24.

He enlisted into theĀ 43rd Regiment of Light Infantry Foot 19 December 1825 at Walsham, Suffolk. later the 43rd & 52nd Light Infantry amalgamated to form the Oxfordshire Light Infantry, his Army Number 493.

He was discharged as a Sergeant Major on the 5 January 1881 at Portsmouth.

He had seen overseas service but on becoming a Yeoman Warder 25 August 1847 he had no medals.

He married a Elizabeth (born 1812 in Cornwall) lived near the Beauchamp Tower, and had 6 children:

There are record that show 2 of Johns Children are buried in the Tower.

John died in Catford Bridge 5 January 1881 and was replaced by John Power
