Andrew Blyth was a Yeoman Warder here at the Tower from 6 February 1829 replacing John Powell, to his death 27 November 1844 when he was replaced by James Arrington (37).

Andrew was born in Scotland in 1781. He married a Christian (Born 1791 in Perth Scotland), and had two children, Thomas born 1826, who became a Cigar maker, and a daughter Laura born 1818.

Andrew was the last “non-military” Yeoman Warder to be appointed as a Warder, Blyth was the former servant of General the Right Honourable Sir George Murray, G.C.B., G.C.H. and therefore was probably a soldier.

Andrew and his family lived opposite the Irish Barracks, which is in the East Casemates

Andrew passed away on the 27 November 1844and was buried in the Tower.  During the Great Conflagration on the night of 1841, Andrew carried the cover of the Baptismal Font, and one salt container.

Andrew passed away his wife remained in the Tower, and in 1851, his widow, who had been born in Perth, and his daughter, Laura who had been born in Dublin, were still living at the Tower as housekeeper and maid to the Foreman of Works James Daly.
