Richard Stone (120) was a Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London, from 13 March 1887 vice Parker (109) to his death on the 3rd January, 1916, and he was when he was replaced by Samuel Fear (179)

He was born in 1839 Wargrove, Oxfordshire, to Mary Wake (Born 1816 – died 1892) and Charles Stone (Born 1816)

He enlisted in to the Coldstream Guards, on the 16 December 1862, at Oxford, and gave his trade as labourer, his Army No. 929.

On discharge 13 March 1883 he had reached the rank of Colour Sergeant in the  1st Battalion, Coldstream Guards.

This photograph was taken for the wedding of the Duke of York and Mary of Teck and shows him with The Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (LS&GC).

He married Eliza nee Holloway, on 26th Dec 1872 at St Mary’s Reading Berkshire, and they had three children

  1. Richard Stone b 1875 St Johns Wood
  2. Mabel D born 1877 and died 1949
  3. Walter born 1879 in Westminster

When at the Tower he lived in the Byward Tower.

Richard died in the Byward Tower on the 3 January 1916 aged 77.
