A Yeoman Warder from 1st April 1922 to 28th February 1935

He was born in 1874 in Inverness, Scotland, and enlisted in to the 2nd Battalion, Queens Own, Cameron Highlanders on the 26th March 1889, at the age of 15 years 11 months, in Inverness, Scotland, at 5ft 3in in height he was also very short, he also gave his religion as Presbyterian, his Army number 2201.

With reference to your application for the award of the Meritorious Service Medal with Annuity, I am directed to inform you that your name has been placed on the register but the list is a long one and as the amount allotted to a Regiment for annuities is strictly limited, only the few with the strongest claims can be eventually rewarded.

When a vacancy occurs(Through the death of an annuitant) the records of all candidates from the Regiment or Corp affected are reviewed of their merits, and the selection is made irrespective of the date of registration of names in the war office.

He became a Yeoman Warder from 1st April 1922 to 28th February 1935

He was discharged from the Army 27th April 1912, Gosport, giving his rank as RSM – 2nd Bn Cameron Highlanders, he must have re enlisted during the war, as when he became a Yeoman Warder in the Tower, he also had the War Medal, and Victory Medal.

He became a Yeoman Warder on the 1st April 1922 replacing James Gaffney 132 he retired on the 28th February 1935, when he was replaced by John Burrows 211.  He died on the 14th September 1944 Halifax.
