John Dwane was a Yeoman Warder from 4 August 1860 (aged 44) to his death 1 December 1885.

John Dwane John Dwane was born on 23 October 1816 in Clonmel, Tipperary.  He enlisted in 1834 to the 60th Rifles.(Kings Royal Rifle Corp KRRC).  He was discharged on the 12 August 1856 at Chatham, Kent as the Quartermaster Sergeant in the 1st Bn. 60th Rifles.(Kings Royal Rifle Corp KRRC).

He became a Yeoman Warder from 4 August 1860 (aged 44) replacing George Gilborn (14) to his death 1 December 1885 at Milton Barracks Gravesend (aged 68), and he was replaced by Bernard McCleech (117).

On arrival at the Tower he had the following medals:

      1. Punjab Medal clasps, Mooltan, Goojerat
      2. Indian General Service Medal 1854, clasp N.W. Frontier
      3. Meritorious Service Medal with a £10 annuity c.1856,

 

His wife Ann born 1833 in Ireland, had six children

    • Charles Ralph born 28 Jul 1856 Chatham, Kent died 24 January 1935 Portsmouth, Hampshire

    • Ernest Henry Born 1866 Tilbury, Essex died 12 August 1947 Wickham Grange, Gloucestershire
    • Herbert Milton Born 22 June 1867 Gravesend, died 6 March 1951 Petersfield, Hampshire

John did not live in the Tower he was the Quartermaster of Milton Barracks, Gravesend.

He died he was He had five sons and one daughter with Ann Dwane between 1851 and 1867. He died on 1 December 1885 in Milton Barracks Gravesend, Kent, at the age of 69, and was buried 5 December 1885 at Gravesend Municipal Graveyard.
