James Forsyth, was a military Yeoman Warder at the Tower from 23rd October 1850 replacing a William White, he remained to his death in the tower on the 16 December 1853, and was replaced by John Douglas (58).

He was born in 1803, in Halifax, Yorkshire, he died in the tower on the 16 October 1853 and buried in the towers East Grave Yard, and his remains were moved as the grave yard is under the approach road on to Tower Bridge.

All Yeoman Warders after 1827, must have served in the military, and James retired from the 1st Life Guards, having reached the rank of Corporal Major (The Life Guards do not have the rank of sergeant).

His family on becoming a Yeoman Warder, his wife: Sarah Forsyth born, 1797 in St Andrews Holborn, daughter Ann Forsyth born 1835 in Clewer, Berkshire.  son James John Forsyth born 1844 St Georges Westminster.

James did not live in the tower in 1851 he was living in St Pancras, Regents Park.
