John Leblique (119) was a Yeoman Warder here from the 20th November 1886, to his death in Brass Mount Battery on 19 April, 1902, (15 years).
John was born 1838 in Lille, France, his father Guillame Liblique (b 1805 in Strasburgh) his mother Maria nee Kirschner (b 1810 Strasburgh and d April 1887 in Gateshead, Durham). It looks like Guillame and Maria only had two children John and a daughter Helena (Spelt different ways, Helen).
He might have had some service in the French Army, then joined the 80th Foot a British Infantry Regiment in 1859.
He was made a Corporal in July 1861, when based at Saugor (could also be Sagar or Sagor) East Indies.
Between December 1864 and February 1866 the 80th Foot Regiment took part in actions in India, which John was involved and so he had the Indian General Service Medal with the clasp for Bhootan, he is the only Yeoman Warder to have that clasp. He had the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (LS&GC) 9 Apr 1879, and 1897 Royal Commemorative Medal.
Promoted to Sergeant September 1863, Then Staff Sergeant 1865 and in 1870 was appointed the Sergeant Major at Curragh Camp Ireland.
He then became the Sergeant Major of the 8th Durham Rifles (Volunteers)
On discharge from the Army he opened a Gym, and taught fencing

- son Arthur Ernest is born 29 Sep 1883 in Gatehead, Durham (he dies March 1953 in Dublin, Ireland)
John dies suddenly on the 19 April 1902 in Brass Mount, the Tower of London
